New genomic techniques: the future of European agriculture?

This new webinar, “Agricultural Café,” is a space for reflection and multidisciplinary dialogue to analyze, from a scientific, regulatory, and agronomic perspective, whether New Genomic Techniques (NGT) truly represent the future of European agriculture. New Genomic Techniques (also known as NTG) offer a crucial opportunity to reshape the future of European agriculture in a context marked by climate change, pressure on natural resources, and the need to guarantee food security. These techniques, which include tools such as precision gene editing, allow for the development of plant varieties that are more resistant to drought, pests, and diseases, with less dependence on chemical inputs and a reduced environmental impact. However, its development also raises key questions : how to guarantee safety, traceability, and social acceptance? What regulatory framework does Europe need to avoid falling behind other regions of the world? How to integrate these technologies while respecting the values of the European agricultural model? PROGRAMME OF THE ROUND TABLE “NEW GENOMIC TECHNIQUES, THE FUTURE OF EUROPEAN AGRICULTURE?” Moderator: Jesús López Colmenarejo, CEO of Grupo Henar Comunicación Soledad de Juan. Managing Director of the Antama Foundation. Esther Herranz. Member of the European Parliament for the People's Party. Vice-President of the Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety in the European Parliament. Clara Aguilera. Former Member of the European Parliament for the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). Expert consultant in the agri-food sector. Rosa Porcel.
