The CSIC is organizing a conference on sustainable soil management: Multisoil Participatory Conference

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has organized a practical workshop focused on the health and sustainable management of agricultural soil, aimed especially at farmers, cooperatives, and professionals in the sector. The event, entitled MultiSoil – Let's Take Care of the Soil , will take place on February 19, 2026, in the Estepa Designation of Origin region (Seville) . The meeting is part of the Multisoil project MultiSoil is a European project that aims to help our soils become healthy, vibrant, and productive again. Its objective is to find and implement practical ways to improve soil in various crops, such as olive groves, wheat, sugar beets, and potatoes, working hand in hand with farmers. The project combines scientific knowledge with farmers' experience to test solutions such as cover crops, organic amendments, beneficial microorganisms, and more sustainable farming methods. All of this is based on a simple idea: if the soil improves, everything that grows in it improves as well. MultiSoil aims to create a set of useful and easy-to-implement best practices and demonstrate that caring for the soil is not only possible but also beneficial for farms and the future of the land. It is funded by the European Union's Horizon program (Project No. 101218951). Participatory space This conference, organized by the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), has been designed as a participatory forum to address fundamental issues for the agricultural sector, with a technical focus geared towards practical application in the field. Topics include effective practices for improving soil health, key strategies for adapting to changes in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) , and recommendations for establishing and maintaining a healthy olive grove from the seedling stage. The event will also offer practical tools and solutions that can be applied immediately on farms, with special attention to real problems faced by farmers and concrete proposals for their resolution. Participation is free, although places are limited, so those interested are advised to register in advance through the registration link provided by the organizers. With this activity, the CSIC seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between scientific research and the...

Cajamar is organizing a webinar on semi-forcing and its contribution to more sustainable horticulture

On February 19, 2026 , Cajamar will hold the free webinar “Semi-forcing and its role in more sustainable crops” , an online session that will analyze how these temporary protection techniques can help improve crop resilience and move towards more efficient and sustainable fruit and vegetable systems. During the meeting, semi-forcing will be discussed as a tool for maintaining plants in optimal condition when there is a risk of light frosts, strong winds, inadequate ambient humidity, or hail . Furthermore, its role as a physical barrier against pests and diseases will be addressed, reducing their incidence and transmission, and decreasing the risk of infections and physiological disorders. The session will also focus on its contribution to reducing pesticide use —for example, through opaque mulches that limit weed growth—and to improving irrigation efficiency and soil management by reducing moisture evaporation and promoting soil conservation. Finally, available materials for designing these systems and their potential for sustainability will be presented. Program 16:30 – Welcome and presentation — Carlos Baixauli Soria (Cajamar Experience Center) 16:40 – The role of semi-forcing systems in crop sustainability — Carlos Baixauli Soria 17:10 – Certified biodegradable mulches: a solution to reduce agricultural waste — Rosa Puig Moré (Novamont Iberia) 17:30 – Mesh, non-woven polypropylene and other materials for semi-forced use — Estefanía Mas Espinosa (Criado & López) 17:50 – Round table with the speakers (moderated by Carlos Baixauli Soria) 6:00 PM – End of event REGISTRATION
