The Official College of Forestry Engineers is organizing the Redforesta 2025 Seminar on Sustainable Forest Management on June 5 and 6 at the San Francisco Cultural Complex in Cáceres. This is a key event for the Spanish forestry sector. Framed within the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 , it is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Over four thematic sections , the seminar will address the main challenges and opportunities of sustainable forest management (SFM), with particular attention to digitalization, competitiveness, and technological development in the sector. BLOCK 1 – New Technologies Emerging tools such as computer vision, drones (UAS), digital seals, hunting traceability, and remote sensing for inventory and monitoring will be explored. Speakers from organizations such as the Cesefor Foundation, Aeromedia UAV, and Föra Forest Technologies will participate. BLOCK 2 – Forest Planning (I) This section will cover the forestry context in Extremadura, partner forests, mosaic landscape planning, and forest certification (PEFC and FSC), with experts from the Regional Government of Extremadura, the University of Extremadura, PEFC, and FSC Spain. BLOCK 3 – Forest Planning (II) The second day will open with an analysis of the role of private enterprise in forest management, carbon markets as a financing mechanism, and innovation in the use of rockrose and resin. The success story of the "Green Motor" project in Asturias will be highlighted. BLOCK 4 – Defense of the Mount The seminar will conclude with presentations on disease control such as drought, forest health through remote sensing, fire prevention with the thermal use of biomass, and adaptive forestry, including LIFE projects. For the past two and a half years, the LIFE BIOBEST project consortium has conducted extensive research and analysis to identify key enabling conditions, models, and strategies for biowaste management to thrive in Europe and close the biological cycle gap through the consistent use of high-quality compost and digestate in soils. As LIFE BIOBEST concludes its research journey, it will hold its final high-level conference in Brussels on June 5, 2025. On June 5 , Unións Agrarias-UPA will hold the online technical conference "Regenerative Agriculture and Livestock Farming as Keys to Sustainability." The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha will hold a conference on innovation in the agri-food sector on June 9th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan (PEPAC) . From June 10 to 12, 2025, CIHEAM Zaragoza will host the International Symposium "Empowering Women through Innovation in Mediterranean Agri-Food Systems." Organized by CIHEAM Zaragoza and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), with the collaboration of the CIHEAM General Secretariat and the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the event will bring together representatives of international organizations such as FAO, IFAD, OECD, the European Commission, ICARDA, and IWMI, as well as entrepreneurs, researchers, and members of civil society and the private sector. On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the SIMBIOLIVA Operational Group will participate in the presentation of the results of the Andalusian operational group NATURSMOKE , which will take place at the emblematic Carmen de la Victoria in Granada. The event will bring together experts, researchers, and companies from the agri-food sector to discuss new sustainable technologies applied to plant pathogen control and byproduct valorization . The POMODORO Operational Group will actively participate in the 40th National Irrigation Congress , which will be held from June 11 to 13, 2025 , in Albacete , with an agenda focused on the dissemination of the progress and objectives of its project in terms of sustainability and innovation in horticultural irrigation. The 16th Walnut Conference aims to open a space for debate in response to the challenging situation facing the walnut production sector. The declining sales price is compounded by an increasingly demanding market and strong, unfair imports. The Digitalization Observatory in the Spanish Agri-Food Sector and La Vega Innova , projects promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, are organizing a new webinar to analyze the benefits of virtual fences and agrolabs promoted by La Vega Innova in this area. Virtual fences are technological systems that allow grazing areas to be delimited without the need for physical or electrical fencing.
