Abstract

Expected results:
Improve environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and mitigation processes, creating added value and disseminating the benefits of wild game meat consumption to the end consumer. Reduce the gap between the supply of natural products and the demand of traditional and new consumers, creating links between forest products, the rural community, and consumers in large cities. Implement a technological information tool that allows consumers to communicate the natural origin and environmental friendliness of game meat, especially certified and accredited game meat, its origin and sustainability. Increase the consumption and marketing of game meat in Andalusia, boosting the economic development of the rural community, the industry, and sales channels. Promote environmental sustainability in extensive systems to provide added value to meat products from free-range animals.

Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to enhance the market value of big game meat by creating a new product line resulting from the implementation of a sustainability, origin, and traceability label that certifies the origin of the game and provides relevant information for consumers.

This involves placing big game hunting products on the market that carry sustainable quality marks and are integrated into digital systems that allow identification of their origin. Thus, this work proposes extending the FSC sustainability mark to the end consumer. This mark, which currently certifies that the product originates from a forest whose forest management meets strict requirements related to ecosystem conservation, the rural development of local populations, and the economic viability of farms.
