SHELFLIFE_RASPBERRY Operational Group: Improving the productive efficiency of raspberry cultivation in Andalusia

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2023 -2025
  • Assigned Budget 184.422,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
  • Project website GO SHELFLIFE_RASPBERRY
Abstract

The expected results of the project can be analyzed from several perspectives: - Socioeconomic: The aim is to increase the shelf life of Andalusian production by reducing waste of unsuitable products.

This will position these fruits as a preferred option in the market, increasing demand and directly benefiting the economy of producers.

  • Environmental: The project will optimize energy and water consumption, establishing efficient models that maintain the nutritional and organoleptic value of raspberries.
  • Scientific-technical: Advanced techniques will be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of research and development into raspberry cultivation and fruit.
Description of activities

It consists of main activities, in addition to dissemination and coordination:

  • Establishment of intrinsic and extrinsic crop parameters that affect raspberry shelf life
  • Improvements in organic and conventional farming through soil microbiota analysis, sensor deployment, and shelf-life studies.
  • Improvements in raspberry harvesting with the addition of temperature and humidity sensors, pre-cooling chamber monitoring, and shelf-life studies.
  • Monitoring and control of biota in fruit storage chambers.
  • Creating predictive models of the effect of temperature on transportation through logistics monitoring.
Objectives

The overall goal is to increase the competitiveness of raspberry cultivation in Andalusia by increasing the shelf life of conventional and organic raspberries.

To this end, factors that influence the shelf life of raspberry crops will be established, innovative technologies and monitoring and control sensors will be implemented in the crop, a handling protocol for transport will be designed and established to guarantee differentiated quality, energy and water costs will be reduced through optimal and efficient models that guarantee the nutritional and organoleptic value of raspberries, and losses generated by expired, non-compliant, or overripe products will be reduced.
