Description

Generation of knowledge, tools, a protocol for action and a network of producers for the supply and promotion of consumption of local organic fruit and vegetable products in public educational canteens.

Objectives

Improving the skills of local organic fruit and vegetable producers to support the transition towards sustainability in public canteens in Madrid, Valencia and the Canary Islands.

Results
  • Generation of knowledge about the productive capacities of organic fruit and vegetables, the characteristics of the public catering sector, the eating habits of consumers and the ecological footprint of public canteen menus.
  • Launching pilot initiatives in public canteens.
  • Establishment of a local and supra-regional network of local organic fruit and vegetable producers for the collection and distribution of their products in public catering.
  • Communication campaign to promote the inclusion of local organic food production through public procurement.
