AGRIREGENCARBON Operational Group: Validation of a methodological proposal for carbon-regenerative agriculture

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2024 -2026
  • Assigned Budget 486.755,56 €
  • Scope Supraautonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía; Aragón; Cataluña
  • Main source of financing CAP 2023-2027
  • Project website GO AGRIREGENCARBON
Abstract

The main result of the AgriRegenCarbon operating group will be the development of a methodology for generating carbon emission offsets in the agricultural sector. The main beneficiaries of this result will be, on the one hand, the farmers themselves who wish to start working with carbon emission offsets from regenerative agriculture, and also, the global population, as it will have a direct impact on the permanent capture of carbon in the soil, reducing emissions.

Description

The methodology for regenerative agriculture resulting from this project will be available and accessible to any actor in the sector who wishes to apply it, thus being of public benefit, and with the aim of being a driver of change in the current agricultural landscape by turning an apparent problem into a transcendental and disruptive solution for the fight against the climate crisis.

Description of activities
  • Activity. Preparation of the preliminary project with different scenarios.
  • Activity: Establishing a baseline, through soil sampling, of the farms for their subsequent inclusion in the Carbon Farming program. Activity: Proposing a technical roadmap for the implementation of more sustainable practices and reaching an agreement with the farmers for the project scenario.
  • Activity. Preparation of the PDD and model for signing the contract for joining the Carbon Farming program.
  • Activity. Preparation of the economic and financial analysis taking into account the different budgetary options.
  • Activity. Collection of data related to logistics, difficulties, and areas for improvement in the development of the sampling process. Activity. Preparation of a report analyzing the economic and logistical feasibility of the proposed monitoring mechanism.
  • Activity. Analysis, validation and certification of the methodology against the ISO 14064-2 standard.
  • Activity. Analysis and preparation of the report on the suitability of the methodological proposal, in relation to the MITECO volunteer and the QU.ALITY criteria.
  • Activity. Prospecting for potential clients and presenting the compensation proposal through the credits generated.
  • Activity. Securing a pre-purchase agreement for the credits that will be generated.
  • Activity. Reading, critiquing and reviewing, identifying weaknesses and proposing improvements.
  • Activity. Integration of the improvement proposals into the methodology, iteration meetings to achieve the integration of the proposals into the methodology.
  • Activity. Reading, analysis and research of the methods available for monitoring biodiversity in agroecosystems.
  • Activity. Validation of the suitability of the proposed methods with the farmers participating in the program.
  • Activity. Final report, economic analysis of the proposed methods, illustrative graphs, data sources.
  • Activity. Collection of data from the online databases available for the farms in the project.
  • Activity. Preparation of the comparative report.
Objectives

The AgriRegenCarbon operational group's main objective is to establish a pilot project to validate the technical, regulatory, and economic feasibility of a methodology for generating carbon offsets in the agricultural sector. This is based on the implementation of regenerative agriculture as a means of capturing carbon dioxide and helping to mitigate the climate crisis, with agriculture playing a key role in the solution.

Results

The main expected result is the development of a methodology for generating carbon emission offsets in the agricultural sector, accessible to any actor in the sector who wishes to apply it and be a driver of change in the current agricultural landscape by turning an apparent problem into a transcendental and disruptive solution for the fight against the climate crisis.
