Biodiversity Foundation Project: Sustainability Management and Ecodesign in the Ham Sector

Description

Sustainability has become an essential competitiveness factor for all companies today, a situation that is leading them to convert their production processes towards sustainability. Therefore, the Regulatory Council of the Jamones de Teruel Designation of Origin proposes this project, with the aim of improving the sustainability capabilities of professionals working in the ham industry, throughout its entire life cycle, from farm breeding to distribution.

This training program addresses a transformation of the sector aimed at reducing environmental impacts through improved management and the design of production processes.

Description of activities

Content of the semi-face-to-face training action:

  • Block 1: Sustainability as added value in the company.
  • Block 2: Introduction to sustainability tools and indicators.
  • Block 3: Incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals into the company.
  • Block 4: Carbon Footprint, a factor of competitiveness in the company.
  • Block 5: Lifecycle analysis. Possibilities for improving production processes.
  • Block 6: Ecodesign in the ham industry.
  • Block 7: Circular economy.
Objectives

The project aims to provide blended learning through an e-learning platform. The training is aimed at increasing the knowledge of sustainability and ecodesign among employees of companies linked to the ham value chain (livestock farming, slaughterhouse, drying facility, distribution), with the aim of ensuring the sector's future viability by enabling them to address environmental challenges such as farm-to-table, the SDGs, and the European Green Deal.
