The project aims to leverage the technological advances developed by the scientific and research community in the field of traceability and smart labeling, based on Artificial Intelligence, bringing them closer to Andalusian fruit and vegetable production and marketing companies, in order to facilitate their transition to Industry 4.0. The implementation of these technologies will help generate added value for their products on the market by providing compelling information to end consumers.
The goal is to develop the skills necessary to work in the field of Artificial Intelligence and improve the technological competencies of Andalusian agri-food companies to progressively adapt to the transformation this technology entails. Through the smart label, consumers will receive information aimed at ensuring the food safety, nutrition, and sustainability of products such as Lobello watermelon and tomato, which meet high levels of safety and quality and are produced using environmentally friendly techniques such as Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint, among others.
The challenge posed by the eTIC4FOOD Project is the development and creation of a tool that will provide consumers of Andalusian fruit and vegetable products with real-time information on the process of the product they are purchasing and/or consuming, from the seed to the moment it reaches the consumer's hands. This will establish a concept of dynamic traceability, which will serve as a link between the agri-food company and the end customer of the product at any time the latter consults the new smart label.
At the time of purchase, the product (fruit or vegetable) will be identified with an interactive label that will allow, through a website or a mobile app, the end customer access to a set of information that will be updated right at that time of consultation, which could be the time of purchase, or the time of consumption at home, or even, the consumer will be able to obtain an evolution of this information (e.g. quality characteristics) throughout the time the fruit is stored at home until the time of purchase.
The Work Plan consists of:
- DOCUMENTARY PHASE, aimed at evaluating the most suitable production and technological scenarios for controlling parameters and content that will form part of the information platform between the end consumer and the producer.
- EXPERIMENTAL PHASE, structured into the following activities: 1. Design and construction of the information system for smart labeling of fruit and vegetable products; 2. Development of content for the smart labeling information system; 3. Validation of the information system through implementation in a production system.
- FINAL RESULTS REPORT WRITING PHASE.
- RESULTS DISCLOSURE PHASE.
The overall objective is to create an ICT tool for smart labeling of sustainable fruit and vegetable production.
A digital footprint of the product will be developed, integrated into an information platform between the producer and the consumer, through the design of a smart label equipped with NFC technology and a QR code.
Technological development will connect end consumers with a wealth of information related to sustainability, safety, quality, CSR policies, and, in general, data on good practices and the promotion of healthy and environmentally sustainable foods.
