Description

GENMAC promotes the improvement of the competitiveness of the forestry sector through the best use of genetic resources and available forestry information, ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of quality wood to the industry.

Objectives
  • Evaluation and adaptation of the results of genetic improvement programs to the current, medium- and long-term needs of sustainable production of high-value raw materials for the industry and forest owners.
  • Based on the needs identified, adapt and coordinate seed and plant production systems according to the different types of forestry and the territorial areas to be considered, incorporating new technologies and ensuring supply.
  • Demonstration of MFRs to achieve efficient use of them.
Results
  • Determination of the needs of the wood industry and producers of Forest Reproductive Materials (FRM) and assessment of the status of national improvement programs and Base Materials (BM) of other programs that may be of interest to pine wood production forestry.
  • Characterization and re-evaluation of MBs relevant for sawnwood quality by tolerance to pests, diseases and abiotic factors, and vegetative multiplication capacity with innovative methodologies.
  • Determination of recommendations for utilization areas for some highly productive pine MBs.
  • Marketing of improved MFR, ensuring the supply of seeds and vegetative propagules for the types of forestry and territories considered.
  • Demonstration of the results of improvement through the installation of experimental plots.
  • Facilitate the sector's access to new MFRs.
