Description

In this context, GenMaC is the Supra-autonomous Operational Group (GO) created to innovate and cooperate in the transfer, use and demonstration of available knowledge in forest genetic resources, and to promote the use of the best Forest Reproductive Materials (MFR) to increase the productivity and quality of coniferous wood production, and in this way achieve economic viability and competitiveness throughout the forestry chain, favoring a sustainable and efficient use of renewable natural resources and a stable and adequate supply to the diverse needs of the wood industry.

Objectives
  • Evaluation and adaptation of the results of genetic improvement programs to the current, medium- and long-term needs of sustainable production of high-value raw materials for industry and forest owners
  • Based on the identified needs, adapt and articulate the seed and plant production systems according to the different types of forestry and the territorial areas to be considered, incorporating new technologies and ensuring supply.
  • Demonstration of MFRs to achieve their efficient use
Results
  • Determination of the needs of the timber industry and Forest Reproductive Material (FRM) producers and assessment of the status of national breeding programs and Base Materials (BM) from other programs that may be of interest to pine timber production forestry. Characterization and re-evaluation of relevant MB for sawwood quality based on pest, disease, and abiotic factors tolerance, and vegetative propagation capacity using innovative methodologies. Determination of recommendations for utilization areas for some highly productive pine MBs.
  • Marketing of improved MFR, ensuring the supply of seeds and vegetative propagules for the forestry types and territories considered
  • Demonstration of improvement results through the installation of experimental plots. Facilitate the sector's access to new MFRs.
