Publication date: 22/01/2025

Description

Yesterday, January 21, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, presented the National Food Strategy (ENA) to the Council of Ministers. This is a framework for strengthening the sustainability and competitiveness of the Spanish agri-food system. Among the six challenges identified ( Strategic Supply, Sustainable Food Systems , Strengthening Rural and Coastal Areas , Healthy Eating, Innovation and Technology in Food, and Food Information for Consumers), number 5 stands out within the Spanish AKIS, focusing on innovation and technology.

This challenge focuses on transforming the production model through digitalization, promoting the generation and transfer of knowledge among stakeholders in the agri-food chain. It also encourages investments in technology and digital innovation and promotes regulations that facilitate this progress.

Innovation not only seeks to optimize production processes, but also to position Spain as a leader in agri-food technology, consolidating its role as a global power in the sector and strengthening its capacity to adapt to global challenges such as climate change and food security.

This strategic vision, developed with the participation of all stakeholders in the sector, places innovation as a key factor in ensuring a sustainable, efficient, and competitive food system.
