Operational Group: Innovation and promotion of sustainable practices in the production and marketing of rice in Aragon

Rice is grown in saline soils, so much of the abandoned rice-growing land becomes uncultivated. This leads to increased desertification, negatively impacting the rich biodiversity and ecosystem of these lands (especially aquatic fauna and birds).

The rice market is increasingly globalized, consumption habits are changing, and the end consumer demands greater food safety and quality. In this context, it is necessary to increase the added value of rice, which will impact agricultural prices, and to achieve a more sustainable production and food model through innovation in the three phases of the food chain: agricultural production, agri-food processing, and marketing. Economic focus: increasing the profitability of rice farms. Environmental focus: contributing to environmental protection. Rural and social focus: strengthening the socio-economic fabric of rural areas.
