Operational Group: Maximizing genetic improvement of conifers through innovative vegetative propagation techniques in Galicia
- Type Operational group
- Execution 2016
- Assigned Budget 6.000,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Galicia
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
The objectives of this Operational Group are: to evaluate the capacity to maximize forest genetic improvement of conifer sexual propagation and supply programs through vegetative propagation techniques in Galicia; to study vegetative multiplication formats as technological and/or biotechnological tools for the valorization of the results of conifer sexual propagation and supply programs or comparative tests of technical feasibility between different multiplication formats and the effects on trunk quality; to study the need for coniferous wood raw material in Galicia; to study the Adaptability of the results of conifer improvement programs, or of available forest genetic resources, to the needs of different industrial uses.
To study the individual suitability of Pinus pinaster, Pinus radiata, and Pseudotsuga menziessii, and the potential role of other species not yet considered by the sector, such as Pinus taeda; to comparatively study the scientific feasibility of using clonal material to develop solutions through sexual and/or vegetative propagation improvement programs; and to study the necessary aspects to strengthen/promote the decision to allow the commercialization of improved genetic materials of this type.
