Operational Group: ICT Tools for Smart Labeling of Sustainable Fruit and Vegetable Production

Description

Today, innovative processes in fruit and vegetable production and distribution are increasingly safer, higher-quality, and fully traceable, with more optimized life cycles, reduced waste production, and greater energy efficiency.

These processes, carried out internally by producing companies, require accessibility to the end consumer, since they only receive information, at best, about the production areas and the nutritional values of the product, without considering the innovation processes involved and the commitments to food safety and sustainability.

Specific actions will be implemented aimed at traceability and transparency, which will increase consumer appreciation for environmentally sustainable agricultural production methods, while promoting differentiation and agri-food quality, working within a fully synergistic cooperation framework that will integrate all key players in the value chain.

Objectives
  • Design and test a tool for smart labeling of fruit and vegetable products using consumer-friendly ICTs that would provide data on the agricultural protocols applied: crop location, phytosanitary products used, water and environmental footprint, etc.
