Description
Quinoa is a widely cultivated Andean crop that stands out for being a complete, balanced, and nutritious food. It is gluten-free and contains most of the essential amino acids.
In recent years, it has experienced growing international demand due to its unique nutritional characteristics. The project aims to obtain short-cycle quinoa materials with agronomic characteristics adapted to Andalusia, which also feature large, white grains and a lack of saponins.
The Operational Group has a clear applied focus, providing the company with new quinoa materials that will boost its cultivation in Andalusia and its export to countries with similar agroclimatic characteristics.
Objectives
The specific objectives, among others, of the project would be:
- Identification of hybrids using molecular markers.
- Selection of materials that meet the characteristics demanded by companies.
- Generate new varieties of quinoa, more productive and of higher quality.
- Development of molecular markers to identify new varieties and defend their patents.
