Description
Application of innovative nutrition techniques that reduce the use of antibiotics to address digestive problems in fattening rabbits, ensuring their health and profitability for the farmer.
Objectives
- Detailed knowledge of the health status of the Spanish rabbit sector and the use of antibiotics
- Obtaining a feed adapted to the digestive needs of the young rabbit at weaning, which will improve its intestinal health and contribute to reducing the use of antibiotics.
- Inventory of algae, by-products, and algae extracts from the Galician coasts of interest in the formulation of animal feed
- Multiplier effect in the transfer of project results to the rabbit sector
Results
- Conducting a survey among farmers to understand their health, management, and infrastructure status, so that appropriate measures can be taken to resolve the problems identified.
- Development of the best ideal protein profiles and different fiber fractions to improve intestinal health, thus reducing antibiotic consumption.
- Identification of the type of algae that can promote intestinal health due to their soluble fiber content and characterization of the different fiber fractions (soluble and insoluble)
- Dissemination of the results and work carried out in a general manner throughout the sector through magazines, social networks, and seminars
