Biodiversity Foundation Project: Climate-Friendly Food: An Initiative to Reduce CO2 Emissions

Description

The Climate-Friendly Food initiative seeks to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from all stakeholders in the Spanish food chain by promoting action by the actors involved (producers, industry, distribution, and consumers) and raising awareness among both them and the public.

The Ecology and Development Foundation (Ecodes) launched this project, which has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation through its 2015 grant call.

Description of activities

Some of the actions carried out have included identifying and contacting key stakeholders in the food chain, to whom a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and/or take climate action will be proposed, as part of the "1 Million Climate Commitments" project.

In addition, participating organizations have also received support in mobilization campaigns to secure stakeholder engagement, and a "climate-friendly recipe" competition has been held, with an awards ceremony and videos of the winning recipes.

Objectives

The Climate-Friendly Food initiative seeks to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from all stakeholders in the Spanish food chain by promoting action by the actors involved (producers, industry, distribution, and consumers) and raising awareness among both them and the public. These measures aim to implement a low-carbon, climate-friendly diet.
