Description
Increased net margin and sales profitability through enhanced product transformation possibilities and the use of short supply chains. Increased number of available varieties and apple production in the area, strengthening the productive diversification of farms.
Description of activities
- Identification of local varieties suitable for juice/cider: prospecting for varieties, characterization of existing plantations, suitability assessment and classification (CITA), genetic analysis and selection of varieties for trials.
- Optimization of field implementation: agronomic and economic study of the selected varieties, with planting and/or grafting in pilot plots.
- Pilot productions: production of experimental juices and ciders with different mixtures of varieties.
- Dissemination of results: visits to farms, technical workshops, preparation of a practical guide for the sector and dissemination in the media.
- Market evaluation: analysis of the commercial acceptance of the pilot products through tastings.
Objectives
The objective of the project is to adapt the varietal structure of the apple orchards of Sobrarbe so that apple cultivation is a real complement to extensive livestock farming in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
Joint actions will be promoted to improve the competitiveness and viability of agricultural, livestock and forestry farms, fostering their sustainability and marketing through short chains and local markets.
