The ATHENEA Working Group shared its latest developments at Expo AgriTech 2025

The ATHENEA supra-regional Operational Group , coordinated by CITOLIVA , participated in Expo AgriTech 2025 , which took place in Málaga from October 28 to 30. The fair, one of the major national events focused on agri-food innovation, brought together thousands of professionals interested in new technologies applied to agriculture and the agri-food industry.

In this context, CITOLIVA presented the evolution of the ATHENEA project, an initiative co-financed by the MAPA and the EAFRD , whose objective is to move towards a more sustainable and circular livestock farming through the revaluation of olive grove by-products.

ATHENEA is researching how to transform olive leaves, pomace, and other olive oil waste into natural ingredients rich in polyphenols , capable of replacing synthetic vitamin E in animal feed. This approach not only reduces dependence on chemical additives but also strengthens the connection between the olive oil and livestock sectors, fostering new synergies.

Participation in Expo AgriTech allowed the Operational Group to show how the combination of innovation, biotechnology and digitalization can provide real solutions to take advantage of the resources available in the olive grove and promote a more efficient and environmentally friendly model throughout the agri-food chain.
