SMARTPHOTOLIVE Operational Group: Application of artificial intelligence in olive-energy cooperatives

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2024 -2025
  • Assigned Budget 298.974,48 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
Abstract

Expected results

  • The goal is to produce a demonstration of intelligent energy management using a system based on Big Data and Deep Learning, which will demonstrate the benefits of applying artificial intelligence in fields such as energy, and which can be extrapolated to all Andalusian agri-food cooperatives.
  • This would diversify the mill's activities by providing new energy revenues and providing a valuable service to its members.
  • Generate new learnings about energy consumption habits in the olive oil industry, households, farms, and irrigation communities.
  • Create an energy design project aimed at the olive oil cooperative's activities.
  • Develop a web platform for communicating energy-efficient recommendations so that the electricity produced is consumed efficiently by each of the energy cooperative's users. Impact and potential.
  • Creation of direct and indirect jobs in the municipalities influenced by the oil mills/cooperatives.
  • Improving the profitability of all stakeholders in the olive oil sector's value chain, including farmers, irrigation communities, olive mills, packers, and ultimately, virgin olive oil customers.
  • Reduction in energy consumption costs for customers, including partners, close to the agri-food industries.

Recommendations: The model would be perfectly applicable to any energy community outside the context of the agri-food industry, and more specifically to olive oil cooperatives.

Description of activities
  • Creation of tools to collect, process, and analyze historical data on the variables involved in the development of the planned intelligent management model.
  • Design, construction, and commissioning of an integrated electric power generation system within the cooperative.
  • Development of procedures for real-time measurement and storage of the variables involved.
  • Launching a server to manage the generated data.
  • Development of intelligent methods for management and decision-making in the energy cooperative.
  • Development of a web application that displays users' future recommendations.
  • Data analysis and dissemination.
Objectives

The overall objective of this operational group is to apply Artificial Intelligence to energy management in the olive oil sector, understanding energy cooperatives as producers, managers, and distributors, ensuring their technical, economic, financial, and sustainable viability through predictive models.

All of this will be achieved through the development of intelligent photovoltaic systems that will be implemented and validated in a virgin olive oil producing cooperative, SCA SAN ROQUE, with sufficient infrastructure and social and economic resources to carry out this innovative project, which will contribute to improving the profitability of these industries and their members.

Results

The goal is to produce a demonstration of intelligent energy management using a system based on Big Data and Deep Learning, which will demonstrate the benefits of applying artificial intelligence in fields such as energy, and which can be extrapolated to all Andalusian agri-food cooperatives.

This would diversify the oil mill's activities by providing new energy revenues and a valuable service to its members. It would generate new insights into the energy consumption habits of the olive oil industry, households, farms, and irrigation communities. It would also create an energy design project focused on the olive oil cooperative's activities.

Develop a web platform for communicating energy-efficient recommendations so that the electricity produced is consumed efficiently by each of the energy cooperative's users.

Impact and potential:

  • Creation of direct and indirect jobs in the municipalities influenced by the oil mills/cooperatives.
  • Improving the profitability of all stakeholders in the olive oil sector's value chain, including farmers, irrigation communities, olive mills, packers, and ultimately, virgin olive oil customers.
  • Reduction in energy consumption costs for customers, including partners, close to the agri-food industries.
