RAVSA3 Operational Group: Andalusian Network for the Valorization of Agri-Food By-Products in Animal Feed
- Type Operational group
- Status In progress
- Execution 2023 -2025
- Assigned Budget 222.194,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Andalucía
- Project website GO RAVSA3
For feed manufacturers and livestock farmers in Andalusia, the results of this project will provide insight into the availability of products that can be incorporated into the food chain as alternative and complementary sources of raw materials, either for feed production or for direct feed to livestock.
It will also provide alternative raw materials in times of scarcity. It will facilitate interaction between the agricultural, agro-industrial, and livestock sectors to optimize the use of by-products, improving business profitability. It will promote a more sustainable economic model, encourage more efficient use of resources, minimize the ecological footprint, and contribute to the sustainability of the agri-food sector.
Market research. Identification of by-product producing industries. Analysis and definition of requirements. Creation of composition and nutritional value tables. Development of a protocol for by-product valorization. Implementation of the intercommunication medium. Creation of the digital platform. Incorporation of pilot users into the platform. Field testing. Evaluation of by-product viability. Dissemination of results. Communication to the involved sectors.
The RAVSA3 Operational Group emerged from the need to unite the efforts of Andalusia's main economic drivers—agriculture, livestock farming, and the agri-food sector—with a common goal: improving their efficiency and profitability. To achieve this, the development of business models based on the circular economy and the valorization of byproducts will be promoted, which will help mitigate the environmental impact generated by waste management and improve the economic situation of the sectors involved.
Digital tools will be implemented to facilitate communication and promote a symbiosis between producers of by-products with potential for recovery and companies interested in integrating them into animal feed, fostering collaboration among the various stakeholders in the agri-food chain. This will allow for greater transparency and traceability of by-products, as well as optimization of their production and management processes.
The project aims to consolidate Andalusia as a self-sufficient region, less dependent on foreign markets, which is especially important in the current context of economic uncertainty. Furthermore, the RAVSA3 Operational Group is expected to have a positive impact on Andalusian society by improving sustainability, strengthening and accelerating Andalusia's transition toward a circular economy that boosts competitiveness, job creation, and the quality of life of local communities.
This project represents an opportunity to explore alternative raw materials not previously used in animal feed. It will reduce animal production costs and also reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural production by utilizing products that are currently discarded and degraded in the field, often increasing the carbon footprint.

The environmental advantages are notable:
- It contributes to mitigating and adapting to climate change, reducing plastics, packaging, equipment, etc.
- More efficient use of water in industry by eliminating the need for rework.
- Contribute to a low-carbon economy by optimizing existing resources.
- More efficient use of energy in the agri-food industry and food processing because there is no reworking or reprocessing.
- Taking advantage of existing products to avoid food waste
