Description
The techniques employed will improve the efficiency and quality of oil production, the reuse of by-products from the olive mill, and promote a circular bioeconomy in the sector through state-of-the-art precision irrigation techniques.
Objectives
- Improving the productivity and sustainability of subsurface drip irrigation systems that use olive mill waste as fertilizer through the use of nanobubbles.
- Develop an innovative process based on the circular economy that allows for a substantial improvement in sustainable practices and the competitiveness of olive oil mills.
- Promote and universalize the modernization of irrigation systems, increasing the productivity of olive cultivation and encouraging the use of by-products instead of synthetic fertilizers, thus increasing resource efficiency.
- Transferring tools and knowledge to the sector through demonstration plots, promoting the universalization of this innovative solution that increases crop yield in a sustainable way.
Results
- Efficient valorization of the liquid byproduct of olive oil production and its nutritional content derived from olive washing, promoting a reduction in the use of synthetic fertilizers. Increased water availability for irrigation. Maintenance of system performance by maximizing its autonomy. Transformation of waste into a valuable resource, eliminating its management and associated costs. Positive impact on consumer perception of the final product, leading to increased profitability.
- Favorable change in root system morphology, improved water distribution pattern, increased usable soil volume, and a 4% increase in fruit fat yield in a more economical and sustainable way, using subsurface drip irrigation (SDI).
- Defining action plans for end users to further develop new business models related to the circular economy. Publishing information on social media and technical platforms, and delivering training workshops and technical seminars to disseminate the project's results.
