CUCUMDATA Operational Group: Digitalized system for the creation of classification and packaging strategies

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2023 -2025
  • Assigned Budget 266.918,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
Abstract

The CUCUMDATA project aims to achieve several positive and transformative effects:

  • Improved Operational Efficiency: A significant reduction in cucumber processing times is expected thanks to the implementation of a digital system that optimizes workflow and minimizes downtime. This will allow for greater efficiency in the use of labor and machinery.
  • Cost Reduction: Reducing production times and improving resource management will lead to lower costs associated with labor, machinery, and energy. This will result in greater profitability for horticultural export companies.
  • Improved Product Quality: By reducing the time cucumbers spend waiting to be packaged, their freshness and quality will be improved. This will help meet market standards and improve competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
  • Environmental Benefits: Optimizing the packaging process will contribute to reducing cucumber waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with product spoilage. Additionally, the reduction in energy consumption by machinery will help reduce the process's carbon footprint.
  • Driving Innovation in the Sector: The introduction of advanced technologies in cucumber processing will serve as a model for the modernization of other processing lines in the agricultural sector, promoting the adoption of digital and sustainable technologies in rural areas.
Description of activities

Initially, the first documentary phase consists of Activity 1, a bibliographic study of the methodologies used in the most notable aspects of the project. This is followed by the experimental phase, divided into three activities for the design, development, and evaluation of the results.

These projects will be carried out at the various companies' facilities and, finally, will be transferred to Ecoinver for implementation, validation, and necessary adjustments. The third phase is dedicated to writing reports. Finally, the dissemination phase will be carried out throughout the duration of the project, focusing on the transfer and dissemination of the results.

Objectives

The purpose of this Task Force is to develop a new digital system that improves cucumber grading and packaging strategies. Low-cost technologies and information and communication technologies (ICT) will be used, combined with the study of different cucumber packaging and packing strategies using artificial intelligence.

Results

The expected result is a significant reduction in production times, which leads to increased efficiency in natural, energy, and human resources, as well as improved production of processed cucumbers and a reduction in associated costs.
