The National Food Strategy prioritizes, among other challenges, innovation and technology in the food sector

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, presented yesterday, January 21, at the Council of Ministers, the National Food Strategy (ENA) , a framework to strengthen the sustainability and competitiveness of the Spanish agri-food system. Within the six challenges identified ( Strategic supply, Sustainable food systems , Strengthening rural and coastal areas , Healthy food, Innovation and technology in food and Food information to the consumer) number 5 stands out in the field of the Spanish AKIS, focused on innovation and technology.

This challenge focuses on transforming the production model through digitalisation, promoting the generation and transfer of knowledge between the actors in the agri-food chain. It also encourages investments in technology and digital innovation and promotes regulations that facilitate this progress.

Innovation not only seeks to optimize production processes, but also to position Spain as a leader in agri-food technology, consolidating its role as a world power in the sector and strengthening its ability to adapt to global challenges such as climate change and food security.

This strategic vision, developed with the participation of all stakeholders in the sector, places innovation as a key element in ensuring a sustainable, efficient and competitive food system.
