Luis Planas highlights the innovative capacity of the agri-food sector in the National Food Strategy

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, has highlighted the significant innovative capacity of the Spanish agri-food sector and the importance of its commitment to technology within the framework of the National Food Strategy (ENA) . During his appearance in the Congress of Deputies on March 13, Planas emphasized that innovation and technology are essential pillars for addressing the sector's current and future challenges.
In a context marked by geopolitical uncertainty and the effects of climate change, the minister insisted that the ENA establishes concrete measures to guarantee food supply and promote a sustainable model that strengthens the position of food chain operators. In this regard, he highlighted the knowledge and experience of the Spanish agri-food sector as key elements in driving development and competitiveness .
One of the fundamental pillars of the strategy is a commitment to innovation and technology , which will improve the efficiency of production systems, optimize resources, and respond to the demands of a constantly evolving market. Planas emphasized that the modernization of the sector will contribute to sustainability, strengthen rural areas, and generate new business opportunities.
The National Food Strategy includes 25 measures and 200 actions designed to address the sector's main challenges, including strategic sourcing, sustainable food systems, strengthening rural and coastal areas, promoting healthy eating, and ensuring accurate information for consumers.
Planas concluded his speech by reaffirming the government's commitment to the agri-food sector and its determination to make Spain a European benchmark in innovation and technology applied to food.
