Description
Analyze the current situation of food waste in the food industry and establish action and collaboration measures to minimize it.
Description of activities
- To understand in as much detail as possible the quantity, type, and characteristics of food losses generated by the food companies associated with the members of the Operational Group, as well as the waste reduction strategies they currently implement.
- Identify the types of losses in each production subsector and determine whether or not they are avoidable based on applicable regulations, available technology, and market demands, as well as identify potential areas within the production process for reducing these losses.
- To gather information on management strategies and alternatives, best practices, and success stories in food waste management, and to provide this information, in a comprehensive and categorized form, to food companies so they can implement preventive or corrective actions, thereby achieving effective involvement of the private sector.
- Establish priorities for future specific studies: to obtain higher value-added products from the inevitable losses generated in a specific subsector...
- To raise awareness among food companies, the entire sector, and the general public of the responsibility of each link in the chain in improving food waste management.
Objectives
- A thorough analysis of the current situation will be conducted, so that in a later phase of the project, we can work alongside companies in the most affected subsectors on actions to increase their sustainability and improve their management.
- Design an innovative strategy for reducing losses in the food industry.
