Operational Group: Optimization and development of a prototype bean peeling machine

  • Type Operational group
  • Execution 2016
  • Assigned Budget 6.000,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Galicia
  • Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Description

Broad beans are in high market demand, making it necessary to automate the peeling process. This will benefit producers by increasing the selling price compared to unpeeled broad beans.

On the other hand, the need for individual producers to mechanize this process increases the demand for a bean peeling machine, which increases their income by producing a larger quantity in less time. Currently, the bean peeling process is carried out with machinery that spoils the product by between 10% and 15%, so the focus is on finding a machine that utilizes 100% of the beans.

Objectives

This Task Force aims to design and develop a broad bean peeling machine that allows for 100% utilization of the legume, avoiding product loss and, consequently, the associated costs. The automation of broad bean peeling represents a technological development in the agricultural industry, as currently, the peeling process is performed manually. This is a laborious activity, requiring a significant amount of time, and therefore an associated cost that is reflected in the market price.
