Operational Group: Reuse and recycling of substrates in intensive cultivation

This Operational Group aims to   Identify the most common problems associated with the reuse of substrates on farms, and define the treatments and management with the greatest potential to minimize waste production and the import by the sector of raw materials used in the manufacture of substrates.

The specific objectives will be:

• Characterization of the main substrates used by primary floriculture producers in the autonomous community of Galicia.   
• Characterization of the waste generated after the disposal of these substrates; optimization of substrate treatment for reuse in intensive plant cultivation; in the case of substrates that cannot be reused, development of recycling protocols so that the byproduct can be incorporated in a certain proportion with other raw materials for the production of new substrates.
