Operational Group: Valorization of agricultural waste in the A Limia region
- Type Operational group
- Execution 2016
- Assigned Budget 6.000,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Galicia
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
This project will be carried out on poultry farms, where plant waste produced locally is collected and mixed with the poultry waste generated on the farm. The objectives include reducing the energy intensity of agricultural activities; increasing the percentage of waste recycling; improving the efficiency of natural resource use; reducing the use of chemical fertilizers; sequestering and stabilizing waste in the soil, thus contributing to mitigating climate change; reducing the costs of managing organic waste generated on poultry farms in the area; and reducing the costs of purchasing fertilizers from agroforestry farms.
The Operational Group proposes the joint management of two types of organic waste: that from extensive poultry farms and, on the other hand, the plant remains generated in horticultural and forestry farms in the A Limia area. This waste is achieved through ecological innovation, applying composting techniques to the joint management of these two types of waste, in order to obtain a product with high added value and its subsequent application in the horticultural crops in the area, as organic fertilizer.
