Operational Group: Optimizing the production and quality of chestnuts from the old groves of the Lugo mountain range

The objectives of this Operational Group are:

• Delimitation of the study area and development of digitalized geographic and climatic information on the mountain groves of Lugo.
• Improve knowledge about cultivated varieties, their geographic range, and productive importance through some type of marketing-related inventory or producer surveys.
• To contribute new knowledge about varieties of interest by identifying trees in groves and genotyping them with microsatellites.
• Characterization of collected samples. The characteristics to be considered in evaluating chestnut batches will be discussed: production dates, sizes, nut shape, color, density, drying behavior, ease of peeling, preservation, etc.
