Optimizing the production and quality of chestnuts from the old groves of the Lugo mountains

The objectives of this Operational Group are:

• Delimitation of the study area and preparation of digitalized geographic and climatic information on the mountain groves of Lugo.
• Improve knowledge about cultivated varieties, their geographic range and productive importance through some type of inventory linked to marketing or surveys of producers.
• To provide new knowledge on varieties of interest by identifying trees in groves, genotyping them with microsatellites and characterizing collected samples.

The characteristics to be considered in the evaluation of chestnut batches will be discussed: production dates, sizes, shape of the chestnut, color, density, drying behavior, ease of peeling, conservation, etc.
