Description

Dysentery is a disease that had remained dormant until a few years ago. However, recently, new outbreaks have emerged and are increasing, affecting the pig herd.

The Brachyspira bacteria, which causes the disease, is highly resistant and has a high risk of transmission. Currently, there is no effective control program for the disease, and treatment is based on antibiotics, although this is not entirely effective.

This project aims to develop and implement a comprehensive, collective preventive program to control and eradicate the disease.

The pioneering creation of a computer tool will monitor the epidemiology of the disease and allow for more effective control of the condition.

Objectives

The Task Force aims to develop innovative strategies to control and/or eradicate swine dysentery, such as:

  • Conduct a joint global study of the situation.
  • Study the epidemiology and prepare a summary of the available diagnostic techniques.
  • Determine, evaluate and control disease transmission vectors.
  • Design and develop innovative strategies and software for the prevention, reduction, and elimination of disease.
