The Europe 2020 strategy places the bioeconomy as a key element for Europe's smart and green growth. For this reason, in 2012 the European Union launched the European Bioeconomy Strategy with the aim of improving the knowledge base and promoting innovation in order to increase productivity through the implementation of the CIEs (European Innovation Partnerships).

In the field of Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability, the CIE establishes as one of the five priority areas the need to improve information and risk management systems that allow farmers to be provided with new tools that guarantee the monitoring of the environmental and social results of agricultural holdings.

In this line, the Spanish Bioeconomy Strategy Horizon 2030 contemplates, within the scope of the strategic line of Promoting competitiveness and the development of the market associated with the bioeconomy, advancing in the calculation of the environmental footprint of agricultural products to develop the concept of social and environmental sustainability.

For these reasons, within the framework of this call, the Operational Group proposes the project Development of the methodology to be applied in the calculation of the environmental footprint in horticulture.
