Description
A system for monitoring, diagnosing, and managing health and well-being information and its relationship to production, functionality, and genetics in dairy cattle will allow for the development of disease-resistant animals and reduce the use of antibiotics.
Objectives
- Collection, analysis and presentation to farmers once the information related to animal health and welfare has been processed
- Feasibility study of incorporating health traits into the dairy cattle improvement program in Spain
Results
- Identification and selection of farms with the best track record in collecting phenotypic data
- Establishment of an atlas with all the pathologies to be collected
- Development of a relational database for data processing
- Analysis of phenotypic health information, report design, and development of a web platform for accessing the information generated.
- Analysis of animal welfare indicators in dairy cattle farms
- Genotyping of animals with collected phenotypes. Designing strategies for disseminating favorable genes in the population and disseminating project results within the dairy sector.
