Description
A decision-making support tool (GIS) will be designed and implemented for extensive livestock management and pasture management, combining pasture monitoring with remote sensing and livestock monitoring with GPS.
Objectives
- Define the functionalities of the tool based on the needs of technicians, farmers and managers, and the technical and scientific possibilities available.
- To have information, in almost real time, on the status and evolution of vegetation.
- Comparison with previous years and forecast.
- Facilitate and improve the work of livestock farmers by knowing the position of the livestock and the state of the pastures at all times.
- Train technicians in the use of Geographic Information Technologies and in the use of the tool.
- Promote the transfer of knowledge in the area of TIG and inform potential beneficiaries about the project
Results
- Operational tool that meets the needs of technicians, farmers and managers.
- System specifications and best available techniques. Improved decision making in forest management and livestock handling.
- Cost savings in livestock production through greater control of the main aspects of their operation.
- Have adequate training to understand and use the tool.
- Involvement of potential beneficiaries and research organisations in the design of the tool.
