Description
This initiative aims to improve the sustainability of wheat production through its chain partners by promoting environmental quality labels that provide greater added value compared to wheat cultivation containing BPAs.
Objectives
- Integrate all actors in the wheat production chain as a means of promoting innovation that enables sustainable agriculture and more efficient use of natural resources.
- Adapt and promote innovative technologies among farmers and society at large.
- Promote labelling tools for wheat by-products such as bread, to give commercial visibility to sustainably produced cereals.
- Create a dissemination plan to improve the adoption of innovations and generate information that will enable policies to support innovative and sustainable agriculture.
Results
- Catalog of wheat-producing areas and their different management options, as well as identification of problems requiring improvement. Catalog of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) that reduce environmental impact.
- Agronomic and economic results of how the proposed GAPs can improve wheat production compared to conventional management.
- Development of a low-emission wheat certification system and labeling bread packages with the low-emission seal.
- Design of a web platform to promote dissemination and advocacy among legislators on the importance of promoting sustainable and innovative practices in wheat production.
