Description

Improve the sustainability and profitability of corn cultivation in Spain by employing digital technologies and tools, as well as environmental certification throughout the value chain.

Objectives
  • To generate knowledge about the current technical and economic situation of the corn sector in Spain to identify critical points and opportunities for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.
  • Develop a certified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology specifically designed for corn cultivation nationwide
  • Improving the sustainability of corn cultivation by implementing a Precision Agriculture Techniques Protocol (PTAP)
  • Evaluate the impact of project results to sustainably increase corn crop productivity
  • Promote the implementation of the PTAP and GOMAIZ certification and increase awareness of the associated sustainability improvements among stakeholders in the corn value chain.
Results
  • Technical and economic characterization of the main cultivation areas nationwide and the critical points and opportunities for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Development of a certifiable and validated methodology for the sustainability of corn cultivation in Spain
  • Development of a Precision Agriculture Techniques Protocol (PTAP) to improve the sustainability of corn cultivation
  • Evaluating the impact of project results, the sector's resilience to climate change, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • The implementation of the PTAP and certification has been promoted and appropriate recommendations have been established for stakeholders in the corn value chain.
