Description

  • Co-financed by the European Union and led by Provacuno (Spain) and Apaq-W (Belgium), the campaign continues to promote emissions reductions and the prevention and improvement of soil degradation. Key milestones include the upcoming launch of a web app to measure carbon footprints, as well as activities in Spain, Belgium, and other European countries, in addition to seminars at various universities.
  • The campaign is present at the Provacuno stand at Alimentaria 2026, the international food, beverage and gastronomy fair held from March 23 to 26 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, which this year commemorates its 50th anniversary with the participation of 3,300 companies from 70 countries.

The Spanish Beef Interprofessional Organization, Provacuno , will participate once again in Alimentaria, one of the leading international events for the food and beverage sector. This year, the organization will use its presence to present the progress of the second year of the campaign “For a Sustainable Europe, the Special Mission of Beef,” co-financed by the European Union and led in partnership with Apaq-W .

The initiative is part of a promotional plan aimed at highlighting the sustainability of the European beef sector, with a particular focus on reducing emissions and protecting and improving soil. Alimentaria, which brings together thousands of national and international professionals, thus becomes a strategic platform for conveying these messages to producers, industry, distributors, restaurants, and other key stakeholders.

In the words of Javier López , director of Provacuno, “Alimentaria is a top-tier international showcase that allows us to demonstrate the beef sector’s firm commitment to sustainability, as well as to share with the entire food chain all the tools we are developing to advance in this area.” He also emphasized the importance of the sector continuing to be “a driver of change and continuous improvement.”

A stand to showcase progress in sustainability

During the fair, at its stand 281 in Hall 3 , Provacuno reports on the main new features of the campaign, including the future launch of a web app to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with beef production in Spain, both in the livestock and industrial sectors, integrating the entire value chain in terms of carbon footprint.

The campaign will also be present this year at other industry events, such as SIAL Paris , and at various universities in Spain and Europe, where seminars will be held to raise students' awareness of the importance of sustainability in the beef sector and its contribution to the goal of climate neutrality. In addition, new initiatives are planned in Spain, Belgium, and other European countries.

A program to promote continuous improvement

The Sustainable European Beef (SEUB) program, under which this campaign is framed, will run until 2027 with European co-financing and the participation of Provacuno and Apaq-W. It includes actions aimed at both the public and professionals in the sector.

On the one hand, it seeks to increase knowledge about the European beef production model and its sustainability, as well as to raise public awareness of its role in achieving EU climate neutrality by 2050. On the other hand, it aims to support the sector in its transition towards more sustainable models, facilitating training, technical information and knowledge exchange spaces.

The ultimate goal is to promote the adoption of good practices that contribute to mitigating climate change , by reducing emissions and improving carbon capture, as well as protecting and improving the soil , preventing its degradation and promoting its fertility and biodiversity.
