Description
The project evaluates an innovative process for adding value to agri-food by-products through the production of insect meal and its derivatives. It addresses the pretreatments necessary for larval growth and utilizes waste such as fish discards to produce animal feed and nutraceutical products.
Results
Slurry and digestate from wastewater treatment plants as a substrate for the growth of Hermetia illucens larvae. Nutrients and chitosan from the chitin of H. illucens. Bio-inks and chitosan biopolymers for printing bioactive scaffolds and eliminating emergent plants. Bioplastics from olive by-products.
