Description
BioPestVid develops natural pesticides encapsulated in silica to combat fungal organisms that infect plant crops
Contextual description
BioPestVid addresses the need to develop a natural biopesticide whose main components are essential oils encapsulated in mesoporous silica microparticles. It will be designed for use as a bioprotection agent in agriculture, based on an encapsulation system of natural active compounds with biocidal properties against fungal pathogens of grapevines, such as wood-decay fungi and Botrytis cinerea, the causal agent of gray mold.
Results
A biopesticide based on encapsulated essential oils has been developed that is released in the presence of pathogenic fungi affecting grapevines. It has shown greater efficacy than free oil and offers a natural, specific, and biodegradable alternative to chemical pesticides with potential for transfer to the agricultural sector. Patent: Intelligent, low-toxicity natural antimicrobial systems. PROTECTION OF RESULTS, PROPERTY REGISTRATION: Communication of results: ND-860-2024. May 25, 2024.
