Description
A biodegradable and sustainable Kraft paper active packaging for fresh chicken and pork is being developed. Encapsulated essential oils are used to improve preservation, extend shelf life, and reduce environmental impact compared to conventional plastics.
Results
A paper packaging solution (in envelope format) with a plastic film coating (8 µm thick) has been developed for packaging fresh meat fillets (pork and chicken). This solution can replace plastic trays when selling cut meat in butcher shops. Shelf life has been increased by 50% compared to traditional plastic packaging.
