Description
SOSCAPRI is studying how to reuse bioactive compounds from wine by-products in goat feed
Contextual description
Wine production generates byproducts that can have positive applications in other branches of the productive sector. A better understanding of their characteristics helps give them a second life and strengthens the circular economy. SOSCAPRI has set out to characterize the byproducts of white grape pomace, from its storage to its composition. The latter is promising, as it contains bioactive compounds, such as phenolic compounds, some of which are considered to promote human and animal health due to their antioxidant properties.
Results
An integrated approach has been developed that combines feeding with ensiled grape pomace and genetic selection of the Murciano-Granadina breed to improve the functional profile of the milk, reduce costs and waste, and select more efficient, productive and resistant goats, increasing the sustainability and profitability of dairy goat farming.
