Description of activities
  1. Mechanized transplanting and comparison with the traditional direct seeding method of rice. Optimization of fertilization and incorporation of innovative techniques in integrated pest management that help farmers, improve production, and protect the environment.
  2. Installation of an innovative platform, "from farmer to consumer," for control systems, collection of rice field data, and storage of these data, enabling direct information to be provided on the traceability of Calasparra PDO rice cultivation.
  3. To enhance the use of agri-food by-products derived from rice cultivation and processing for use in the manufacture of materials for specific sectors, such as packaging, specific materials, or as a source of fertilizer substrates and renewable energy sources through the application of innovation.
Objectives

Promoting innovation, information technology, and communication technologies in the cultivation of Calasparra PDO rice to improve production and yield, improve processes, perfect traceability, optimize fertilization, and reduce the carbon footprint by promoting environmentally friendly biodegradable solutions.

Results
  • Develop the application of sustainable practices, adapt technologies, and innovative new techniques, enabling the optimization of resources, increasing profitability and production, and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
  • The aim is to incorporate new, more advanced technological systems adapted to climate change, improving production processes for a more sustainable market, achieving higher-quality and more profitable production, and reducing costs.
  • Protect rice paddies as an ecologically important environment, especially due to the way they are treated, avoiding, as far as possible, the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, etc., achieving environmental balance and exquisite respect for the flora and fauna that coexist with them.
  • Promote labeling tools that give commercial visibility to sustainably produced rice, creating added value for the product and boosting production competitiveness.
  • Recovery of waste and by-products that provide additional economic benefits from circular economy practices, in terms of job creation or wealth creation.
  • Promote the integration of young people and women into the sector from a perspective of environmental, social, economic, and technological integration.
  • Development of a dissemination plan to improve the adoption of innovations by promoting sustainable practices in production.
  • Generate information that enables the development of policies supporting innovative and sustainable agriculture.
