ACTUA 2.0 Operational Group: Revaluation of by-products generated from dolomite extraction for agro-industrial applications

  • Type Operational group
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2023 -2025
  • Assigned Budget 298.906,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Andalucía
  • Project website GO ACTUA 2.0
Abstract

The ACTUA 2.0 Task Force will be a first step toward promoting the revaluation of byproducts that will allow for the generation of new, highly efficient and environmentally friendly products. This will expand the range of sustainable resources and raw materials for farming systems, while also promoting water reuse in agricultural systems.

The results expected to be obtained with the ACTUA 2.0 Operational Group are:

  • Identify technically and economically viable uses for the byproducts under study generated in the dolomite extraction process.
  • Obtain a substrate enriched with minerals of interest such as Ca and Mg from byproducts generated during dolomite extraction and with proven effectiveness in different in vitro and field tests.
  • Obtain a filtering material from mining byproducts that can eliminate impurities in wastewater and thus reuse it.
  • Disclose all actions carried out in the project
Description of activities
  • Documentation phase.
    • Documentary process to collect information on points of interest.
  • Experimental phase.
    • Study of the potential and selection of byproducts generated during the granulation process of the mining industry as raw materials for new products with agricultural potential.
    • Development of new substrates from by-products and analysis and evaluation of their in vitro efficacy.
    • Field validation of new substrates.
  • Final report writing phase.
  • Diffusion Phase.
Objectives
  • Revaluation of dolomite byproducts to generate new products that improve crop quality through the application of substrates enriched with nutrients of interest, promote water conservation, and ensure environmental protection through the development of filters that allow the reuse of wastewater.
  • Various information technologies, such as sensor techniques and omics technologies, will be applied to collect and process as much information as possible.
