GO FOPRODES: Traceability and carbon footprint of dehydrated protein fodder

  • Type Grupo operativo
  • Status In progress
  • Execution 2024 -2027
  • Scope Supraautonómico
  • Autonomous community Aragón; Castilla y León; Cataluña
  • Main source of financing PEPAC 2023-2027
Abstract

A cloud-based information system that allows the entire management process for the production of dehydrated fodder. The corresponding activities that must be carried out during the production process will be established in it. It will also allow determining when they have been carried out. The system will be available as open source for use by any agent in the sector who wishes to do so.

A calculator that allows each entity to determine its carbon footprint by characterizing its installation and production. To do this, the calculator will receive data on production operations in one or more plots, the characterization of the crops in them, and will establish the CO2 balance resulting from a harvest. The system will be available as open source for use by any agent in the sector who wishes to do so.

Implementation of an auditable system of operations based on blockchains. The blockchain will initially be set up with the participation of project partners, but will remain open to the incorporation of other agents into the chain if they so wish. This chain will allow the recording of the operations carried out on the crop and, in this way, ensure traceability of the same in order to verify the calculations of the CO2 footprint.

Set of repositories of results generated by the project (source code, knowledge models, etc.) that are accessible to the entire sector. The project seeks to maximize the dissemination of the results in the sector in order to achieve a higher level of digitalization of the sector.

A technical, organisational and economic exploitation guide model for the possibilities offered by the implementation of traceability systems and the quantification of carbon footprint.

Description

Project focused on the traceability and carbon footprint of dehydrated proetic fodder through a cloud-based information system that allows the entire management process for the production of dehydrated fodder, a calculator that allows each entity to determine its carbon footprint by characterizing its facility and production, the launch of an auditable operations system based on blockchain, a set of repositories of results generated by the project (source code, knowledge models, etc.) that are accessible to the entire sector, and a guide model for the technical, organizational, and economic exploitation of the possibilities offered by the implementation of traceability systems and the quantification of the carbon footprint.

All this with open science models, open knowledge and free software, and possibilities for exploiting carbon footprint reduction.

Description of activities

The project is structured into implementation activities and dissemination activities.

  • Execution
    • Perform an analysis and design of the information system, two iterations of prototypes will be built that will be validated through numerous tests.
    • Carry out the design and construction of the software application that develops this role.
    • Choose a base blockchain technology on which the blockchain to be used will be designed and implemented.
    • Develop a guide that will serve as a reference for the sector in terms of reducing the carbon footprint and how to take economic advantage of this reduction.
  • Divulgation
    • Maximum dissemination of the results, which is why different models for their release will be used: website, fairs, meetings, exchanges.
Objectives

Dispose of:

  • an integrated management system for the entire production chain of dehydrated fodder;
  • a reliable system for measuring the carbon footprint of dehydrated alfalfa production work;
  • a transparency tool that allows the processes carried out in the different phases of dehydrated fodder production to be shown in international markets.
