Operational Group: Application of innovative technologies to improve the use and marketing of native Galician chestnuts

This Operational Group is aimed at the Galician chestnut production sector, with the primary objectives of solving the problem identified by the sector regarding the lack of availability of a homogeneous product and curbing the increasingly frequent incidence of ink blight. Through innovative technologies, the goal is to achieve sufficient production to supply the market with differentiated quality adapted to market needs.

This would be possible through two main actions: protecting native chestnut plants sensitive to ink blight with suitable rootstocks that improve compatibility with the variety and therefore the future viability of the preservation/profitability trade-off; and developing innovative methodologies that make it possible to distinguish between the various chestnut species and their corresponding hybrids.
