Description

The project aims to develop strategies, in the pre-harvest and post-harvest stages, for certain active ingredients that are candidates for substitution in stone fruit, red berries and table grapes.

Objectives
  • Assessment of the economic, environmental and productive impact of the disappearance of different active ingredients and selection of the most problematic ones based on their impact.
  • Design the most appropriate replacement strategies in the pre-harvest period, taking into account their environmental impact, their method of application and their versatility, and evaluate the effectiveness of different post-harvest treatments or technologies as alternatives to the use of the defined active ingredients.
  • Study of the socioeconomic and environmental impact associated with active ingredients on soil, water cycle and commercial quality of fruit and evaluation of the same impact after the application of the new replacement strategies selected.
  • Creation of a strategy for dissemination and exponential growth of farms with replacement programs implemented.
Results
  • Contribution with objective data to the “Comparative Evaluation between risk and benefit of each active substance” (to be carried out by each Member State for EFSA).
  • Design of different substitution protocols with new agronomic strategies and innovative post-harvest technologies that allow reducing the use of phytosanitary products and prolonging the product's shelf life.
  • Calculation of the socioeconomic and environmental impact before and after applying the substitution protocol using production cost analysis, auxiliary fauna indicators (biodiversity), input consumption, productivity and fruit quality, among others.
  • Dissemination and promotion of the different substitution protocols developed and training of the sector.
