Abstract
Action Plan for the dynamic conservation of protected natural areas in Southwest Spain linked to regenerative livestock farming. Priority: 1 - Preserve natural capital and strengthen adaptation to climate change in Southwest Spain. Objective: 2.7 Increase the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity, and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reduce all forms of pollution. This Action Plan will define specific actions to promote the conservation of protected natural areas, linked to the sustainable management of extensive livestock farming. It will establish the technical foundations and specific actions to implement profitable, sustainable, and regenerative extensive livestock farming that improves soils, biodiversity, and the economic fabric […]

Common strategy for the dynamic conservation of protected natural areas in the SUDOE region linked to regenerative agriculture. Priority: 1 - Preserve natural capital and strengthen adaptation to climate change in the SUDOE region. Objective: 2.7 Increase the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reduce all forms of pollution. This strategy will set the conservation guidelines for protected natural areas, linked to the sustainable management of extensive livestock farming, and will serve as a reference for management documents and the definition of institutional and business policies and actions in the protected natural areas of the SUDOE region.

Description

Its aim is to conserve and restore biodiversity and mitigate climate change in agroforestry systems within protected areas of rural SUDOE. To achieve this, it works with extensive livestock farming from two perspectives:

  • Making it more sustainable, promoting regenerative management practices and methods that improve biodiversity, increase carbon capture, promote animal welfare and conserve traditional agroforestry ecosystems.
  • Making it more competitive and profitable, adding value to its products and supporting its companies, so that it can endure and continue contributing to the dynamic conservation of protected areas.

Sustainable extensive livestock farming is being promoted as a driver of endogenous socioeconomic development in protected rural areas. A joint transnational strategy and action plan will be defined for the dynamic conservation of protected areas linked to extensive livestock farming. This will be followed by pilot demonstration activities that explore collaborative solutions for: evaluating and characterizing regenerative management measures on extensive livestock farms for biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation; differentiated promotion of extensive livestock products; short supply chains and networking; and adding value to products through gastronomy.

Finally, the joint transnational strategy and action plan will be validated and then transferred to the relevant sector entities for adoption. It benefits the entire sector's value chain and systematically addresses all the challenges it faces, with a strong demonstration focus and highly applicable products and results. It is promoted by a powerful consortium with extensive experience and expertise, capable of successful implementation, representative of the entire value chain, and geographically balanced.

With it, PASTONATUR capitalizes on previous knowledge and experience, shares capabilities, creates an important cooperation network and makes an effective transfer to policies and the sector, which will guarantee a high impact of the results.
