Description

For 12 years, we've been building a space for creation and participation in rural areas to demonstrate that another form of progress is possible. We care for the Earth and for people; this is our main objective. Volunteers have participated in activities, achieving the objectives set by the Erasmus+ program and adapting them to our own context.

VOLUNTEER NUMBER AND PROFILE: Volunteers Giovanni, Sinem, and Dimitri have had their adaptation period, discovering the place and this way of life, so close to the basic needs of human beings. Dimitri already came from a rural background, although he is originally from the tropics. Giovanni loves climbing and the mountains, so he has adapted very well. Sinem grew up in the city and had some difficulties at first, but thanks to her warrior spirit, she has managed to adapt and become increasingly involved. Overall, the profile has been successful due to the mix of different countries and origins.

Description of activities

The activities carried out have been related to ecology, horticulture, green building, food, livestock farming for self-consumption, natural therapies, alternative medicine, and forestry.

Specifically, they have been:

  • Eco-construction with the materials offered by the place: earth, wood, fibers and stone
  • Cooking: Preparing food for small groups using seasonal vegetables
  • Care of animals for self-consumption of eggs.
  • Organic horticulture for food production (fruits and vegetables)
  • Tools for personal and group growth, conflict resolution
  • Forestry: chestnut, olive and almond forests for the production of firewood, timber and fruits
Results

The most significant result achieved with the three volunteers was their ability to adapt to people from different countries, to the location, and to rural life. We used horizontal participation tools where each person has their own value through: speaking circles, consensus, silence, theater—all of which empower both the individual and the group. Thanks to these tools, the volunteers have grown as individuals, taking responsibility for their own homes, their activities, and those of others.
