Sol de Portocarrero High School has been offering agricultural vocational training for 30 years. It is located in Almería, the region with the largest number of greenhouses in the world. It is surrounded by numerous national and international agricultural production companies, which are the economic engine of southern Spain and constantly need human resources to work both in Europe and abroad.
The aim of this project is to provide these companies with qualified professionals who can work both in Spain and abroad, and to give our students the opportunity to put into practice everything they've learned during their two years of vocational training with us. If they are offered this opportunity abroad, after studying languages for many years, they will also be able to develop their linguistic and social skills.
Possible activities would include supporting technicians in their daily work, managing and improving gardening and agricultural areas, practices related to auxiliary wildlife, certification of agricultural products, and other activities, which will be detailed by each participating company.
Our goal is to provide eight of our students, who are taking the organic agricultural production or gardening modules, with the opportunity to complete their mandatory workplace training (FCT Workplace Training) at companies in the Netherlands and France. These companies have offices in our area and have collaborated with us for the past few years. The students range in age from 17 to 35. They have excellent academic results, excellent foreign language skills, and are very interested in learning from the experience of working abroad.
The project's sustainability is guaranteed, as companies increasingly demand this type of professional profile. They want students to learn directly on their land, in their countries, in their offices, and in their headquarters. Furthermore, Almería's agricultural production has been a world leader in this field for decades and has managed to adapt and grow in quality simultaneously.
