Biodiversity Foundation Project: Impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation to climate change in Mediterranean beekeeping

Description

The project will be carried out in the Mediterranean region, in the communities of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and Andalusia, given that the Mediterranean basin is one of the areas most impacted by climate change in Europe and is a region of high beekeeping production. The initiative aims to provide scientific evidence of the causes of bee mortality and disappearance in the Mediterranean, as well as possible corrective measures, and to learn about the adaptation strategies developed by the beekeeping sector. Furthermore, it seeks to involve the sector in the different phases of the project and highlight its activity to reduce bee abandonment.

Description of activities

To this end, the activities that will be implemented are: Bibliographic review, Interviews with beekeeper groups, Focus group, Evaluation, Dissemination

Objectives

This project aims to understand the causes of bee extinction in the context of global change. The project "Impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation to climate change in Mediterranean beekeeping," launched by the University of Vic, aims to understand the causes of bee extinction in the Mediterranean region in the context of global change. Another objective is to delve into the strategies developed by beekeepers to help halt this process through transdisciplinary research methodologies.
