Description
Multiplication, dissemination and demonstration of the three varieties of Asturian spelt
Contextual description
The Asturian cereal sector faces the challenge of recovering and enhancing the value of spelt cultivation through the availability of new, registered, homogeneous, and adapted varieties that guarantee stable production and quality. It is necessary to promote their planting, incentivize sowing with government support, and ensure the transfer of results to local farmers and bakers. At the same time, efforts must be made to promote and differentiate this traditional cereal to strengthen its identity, increase its competitiveness, and consolidate its role in the rural economy.
Results
Three lines of spelt (Blanquina, Azul, and Roxa) registered by SERIDA were multiplied in the field to transfer the material to the production sector. Seed of all three lines was provided to local associations for cultivation in 2024. Dissemination activities included a workshop with producers, an informational brochure, an article in Tecnología Agroalimentaria, and an exhibition at AGROPEC 2023.
